Researchers at IIT Kanpur have created an artificial rain by spraying chemicals on the clouds
Cloud seeding, where chemicals like silver iodide and potassium iodide are sprinkled on the cloud to produce rain due to extreme cold, this research has been conducted by researchers at IIT Kanpur for the past 6 years and is now a success.
For this, a Cessna aircraft took off from IIT Kanpur’s airstrip and went to a height of 5000 feet and sprinkled the chemical powder on the clouds. After some time rainfall was observed in those areas.
When chemical particles like silver iodide and potassium iodide are sprinkled on the cloud, extreme cooling occurs in the cloud and precipitation occurs. The amount of rain is determined by the amount of chemicals sprayed and the wind speed.
China has already developed this technology. But since it was not shared with India, IIT Kanpur scientists have taken up the responsibility of researching the cloud seeding method and have now successfully tested it.
